Let’s call it January

Beginning 2019 pretty much like I ended 2018

Slightly off center, in hopeful muddy pinks & greys, with a little cut & sew, chapped hands and of course a smidge of the grumps.

I hope 2018 was kind to you and that 2019 is even more so 💕

Bright Moments

Taking a moment, slowing down, drifting back & forth between all the things that give me joy

a little crochet,

a little nerdy stitching for him,

a little collecting, sorting, sifting & snarking,

organizing like with unlike and scissors with scissors.

Giving a quiet moment to memories, to sadness, to the background ache,

to the melancholy that creeps in when something good, bad or indifferent, ends, begins or stays the same.

Bright studio moments for not dead plants & for giant cones of red wool,

and for creating tiny treats, small enough for a mouse’s pocket.

Moments for loving grouchy grinches & for just plain love,

and maybe a little extra moment for the love of 8 homemade butter mints.

12/4/18

The darker days of December, with their overcast filtered light are some of my favorite days.

A time for warm toast, iced coffee and cozy reads. This book may have been purchased solely based on the fact that it contains my most favorite sock knitting pattern ever (Emily’s Favourite Socks) that and the Persephone mitten pattern totally knocked me out.

The bleak landscapes of rural life in winter always get me right in the heart.

(When I first learned to crochet all I could get my hands on were vintage workbasket patterns, I fell in love with thread crochet and making snowflakes and doilies and witching up scalding slurries of sugar starch.)

A season when the metal tools get colder, the knits plumper, the crochet more delicate and a simple candle bulb swap out for bubble lights makes the kitchen window view a little brighter.

It’s also the time of year, I happily make more hats than ever.
