smokey violets

My mom loves purple, it’s her birthstone and just so happens to look really fantastic on her. Me, I’m not so much a purple person, but for my mom ..anything ♥

When I saw this Ella Rae Lace Merino (127) in a perfect purple, I couldn’t help myself, I knew my parents 42nd wedding anniversary was coming and I wanted to make mom something amazing with it.

Using the excellent Metro kerchief Pattern by Yuliya Tkacheva, I created a smokey violets kerchief for my mum.

Graceful drape & supple squishy softness emphasize this patterns perfectly natural balance and brilliant construction.

I gave it to her as an anniversary present (which is today), it was perfectly her.

I’m cool like that…

Owls, are they hot right now? I didn’t notice…

It seems they rank right up there with gnomes, mushrooms, squirrels & acorns (well any cute woodland creature), nesting dolls and many, many other kitschy, get the hell outta here, that is crazy awesome, gotta have all the happy making things, things! I don’t like to admit it but on occasion I can fall pretty deep into the “it’s hot, it’s hip, everybody’s getting it” hole, I don’t always buy into it, but sometimes I make things inspired by it and yes I do want a iPad.

Lately it’s been owls, both of these were hooked using the same ingenious pattern (Macramé Style Hanging Owl) just made using different materials. In the top one I use hemp beading cord & on the bottom one I used cotton yarn for a dishwashing kitchen owl. (with handy hang-loop:)

Watching the Olympics with Lex, I created my own mini British invasion by crocheting an English Kettle Holder, what a perfect start for a proper pot of tea, I’ll take mine with milk & 2 lumps please.

Whatever it is I think I see, becomes a pot-hol-der to me! I can’t get enough of the kitchen stuff or the synchronized swimmers!

ELECTRIC fetus

My husband is a vinyl guy, he collects (hoards) & prefers to listen to music on LP. Needless to say we hit A LOT of record shops!

The Electric Fetus is an indie record shop in Minneapolis, Lex & I never mind tagging along to this shop.

Mostly because in addition to piles & piles of records for Jason to look through, they have aisles & aisles of crazy quirky items for us to look through.

On this trip Jason left with Booker T. & the MG’s and the newest Brass Messengers, Lex & I left with a lunchbox, stickers & several adorable to us pinbacks. OH yeah, and a box of pickle shaped Band-Aids!

This place has really excellent ceilings too!

We haven’t been to the new Hymie’s Records location on Lake, but we really loved the old musty/dusty Hymies, digging for treasure!
