Building up little scrappy blocks row by row, making some Plaidish Quilt yardage in gingham, doughnuts and flowers ..listed in no particular order, because if it were in order of favorites, doughnuts would absolutely be first. To be specific, old fashion glazed, followed by powdered cake.

I’m using some of my best leftover cuts, the milky candy colors make me so happy. When laying it out, I found my darks were a little too dark, so I used the wrong side of the fabric ..I actually do that a lot, wrong side as right side, it makes for a melt my heart vintage worn look. I’m always amazed how something that looks so easy and effortlessly random, actually takes a fair amount of fussing.

I would love to have these soft hues pieced together into an oversized quilt, but that seems like too much work today, the summer studio gets warm and even more so with my obsessive ironing, today at 91°F I can manage a cute bag.

Virtual pets became really popular when Lex was little, they were these colorful palm sized egg toys on a keychain, with the (not so) simple premise of caring for a digital character. They were funny and entertaining at first, but being a kid they didn’t hold her attention. Now 20+ years later they re-released these cute things with bigger eggs, holographic sparkles, full color graphics and even more interactive game play. Lex got us each one as a nostalgic treat and it was more fun than I remember ..until she asked if I could babysit hers while she went to work ..wait, what? Flashback to little Lex crying over a sick and dying (or dead) tama ..yeah these things die if you neglect them! Thankfully it didn’t take us long to learn the new game now had a babysitting feature.

This is my Tamagotchi On, Magic edition and that’s my Mametchi tama kissing his super happy grape fish in the rain and I might be feeling 12 years old right now. ♡

If you’re curious: You can get this purple pet buy leaving an art canvas in your backyard until a walking fish (Monatototchi) appears and you make it your pet (yep, your in game character gets to have a pet too), then after a while another pet will appear in your backyard to play (I had a Doyakentchi stop), then if you want the two can marry and have a baby that’s a combination of both pets (Monatototchi body + Doyakentchi smile). It works the same way for your in game character too, except you need to buy a ring and propose to another tama, you can keep marrying, and having babies to expand the generations of your family tree, or you can play as the same tama the entire time, grow old and die naturally. P.S we’ve never had one die naturally, virtual life usually ends with a pop of the batteries because we’re sick of all the alert chirps and chores.

It’s a weird game of travel, shopping, playing games within the game for money/love/friendship points, marriage, pooping, playing frisbee, vacuuming, and eating (foods will change their colors). Typing all that out has me really thinking about the actual game play ..OK, it’s a super f’ing weird game, that’s strangely charmingly and somewhat questionable, wrapped in adorable packaging.

We’re still masking inside public spaces, because there are still vulnerable people who need to have access to those same spaces and it feels like the right thing to do. So incredibly tired of the nonsense and bad behaviors that are dragging this nightmare out for all of us.

Also getting through it with rootbeer, water wheel tape dispensers (you turn the wheel and it pre-cuts the dang tape!) and bulk mildliner markers, like a 30 pack.
