Dried up, greyed out, and slightly sweet

I always seem to fall harder for the container, than I fall for what’s inside of it. Trying all the creams, balms and lotions this time of year. Rosebud Salve has a beautiful tin, definitely a vaseline feel, that smells powdery (Lex had a baby cabbage patch kid that smelled like this). 6/10 – not that I rate anything consistently, but it gets more points for the old timey metal tin & the fact that the salve is pink, and less points for not smelling like rosebuds ..not sure it was supposed to, but the name had me thinking it would.

It’s always pockets vs. drawer pulls around here. We changed out all the pointy cupboard handles years ago and somehow I still managed to get caught on the corner of something.

To close the rip, add stability and give the mending some strength, I fused a little rectangle of lightweight interfacing on the backside and using 100% cotton thread started stitching (in my sewing I try and use a thread that is similar in fiber content as the fabric, my universal choice is almost always a cotton or cotton/poly blend, but I’ve had this thicker cotton quilting thread hanging around and today was its day). I free handed the + + + but in the future I might chalk out a grid, put it in a hoop and go at it properly, not doing these things made it a bit awkward to work on. This is one of my most worn pieces of clothing, so it’s also the one that gets the most trashed ..I love this little patched pocket ♡

Kinda festive woven fabric star made using this tutorial.

Note: I cut my strips 2″ x 8″, which resulted in a finished star size just over 2″. I wasn’t sure I could just change the measurements to whatever I wanted and have it still work, so I made it out of paper first (it worked!), the smaller size in fabric made for extra plumpy folds though. I also added a bar pin to the back, so I can wear it.

Gumdrop Nugats are a weird caramel cream/cow tail texture, with fruity vanilla tootsie rollness and I’m in love with them. We made ours with chopped up gummy fruit slices because the only gumdrops we could find were spiced. 10/10

Small 2021 round up, I don’t know if more or less will get done in 2022, and really I’m good with whatever it ends up being, lets go easy on ourselves. ♡

All Well

Hey Lex what do you think of my cute round bag? Lex – You could carry a little tire in there!

This is the All Well Full Moon Bag, a free pattern from All Well Workshop. I made the the Big Moon size (9″ diameter x 3″ deep), out of some (deep stash) long forgotten weird printed denim.

I actually made kid Lex some pants in the late 90’s/early 00’s with this and the print is still giving me those Lizzy McGuire feels.

Over the years I’ve learned that I don’t really enjoy sewing circles, so I don’t often make things that require them, I’m not sure what it is, but they literally make me anxious while sewing.

Two deep breaths and I whizzed right through. It was actually really easy, pleasant almost, I was already in a pre-sew funk and trying to sew myself out of it, so why not distract myself further with zippers and curves. It works sometimes you know :)

I Divided the front and interior pockets to suit me and my favorite things. Then white knuckle finished all the seams in bubblegum pink bias tape.

Still debating if it needs handles (the pattern comes with handle instructions) and questioning the usability of a round bag. Doesn’t everything just settle at the middle bottom, how can you carry a book, or anything with pointy edges without it looking like your round bag swallowed something square?

It’s soooo fricken cute though and if anything I guess it’s perfect for carrying around little tires and such.

I made a quick little video of the process, I don’t even know how my wordpress site will handle/play it, but it let me upload it …so maybe?!? Anyways, if it’s a mess on here, and you’d like to watch cute videos of boring stuff, you can always find more of mine on my Instagram reels page.

supply case

I’ve been keeping myself busy sewing the perfect storage/take along/cute stuff case for my cute stuff.

P. S I never go anywhere ♡

I added a split pocket to the front, because everything is better with more pockets, especially impractical tiny cute ones.

I used the smallest size of the Creative Maker Supply Case pattern as the base and customized the insides to everything I wanted.

I went for a knitting-sewing-crocheting-paper & pen case that can also hold candy.

It’s about the size of a paperback book (5½” × 8″ x 1″) and right now it’s my favorite crooked thing ever. ♡

Well almost, I started another scrappy blanket project (no, none of the other scrappy blanket projects have been finished yet) ..but just look at that crochet, I love mitered linen stitch so much!

Pattern: Speckled Squares Blanket by Jackie Hodson of Soul Yarn.

Yarn: Sock yarn leftovers.

Also, just a patch of sky from the other day. ♡
