Middle Section

I’m on the middle section, the last lace bit on my powder and dust shawl before the final color shift. There is so much on my list ..why is trying to finish up old things before starting new things always the toughest?

I think I’ve made my final shell pink bag, it’s exactly what I’ve been reaching for and the best pink organic canvas of my life is just about gone. I’ve been obsessing on a slightly different design and really hope to have a few new bags in the shop for the holidays. 💕

Knitting might be the only craft I limit myself on having too many things going at once, mostly because I’m slow and it takes me forever to finish anything knit, and now that I type that sentence out, it might be because I allow myself limitless side projects that usually end up taking away from my knitting time? huh? ..ok one more row..

That huge front pocket is for patterns, it’s just over 8½” wide so I can have my paper instructions right in my face when I need them, also there are smaller pockets on each side for other handy things. Inside there are eight more pockets, because I love absurd amounts of storage (one is exactly the size of my favorite pen!) 💕

Done with the lace, just a few garter rows until the last sections color shift!

My typical bag consisting of a ½ bag of cereal (because I’m a lazy snack packer) and a not started sock inside a sock sack (for options, but probably won’t start because I don’t break my own rules), tucked into “the shawl” bag, all stuffed into the top of my everyday take along tote ..because I’m 100% ready for anything, and I make bags. 💕

I’ve been trying to resist the urge to go full on Happy Holidays, so instead I restocked my super sweet chubby gummy bears with tag along hearts in the shop, it’s what I’ve been using as a rightside marker/progress keeper on this shawl since its start back in June and I just love it so dang much!

11/3/19 already

I feel like I’m so inconsistent and blurry these days, I blinked and October was over, only aware of time passing in the way you can see how the light has suddenly changed on the same routine drive home, or how its glow fills a room differently, and now even more so, because in the middle of the night we gained an hour. Time for the rotty pumpkins to be tossed into the compost, time for the orange plant to come in for another long winter (I’m amazed it has survived this long, it keeps getting bigger and I keep repotting it and I still feel guilty for always wishing it dead.)

In silhouette for HULK scale.

I made myself some Black Licorice Cat stitch markers, for kiki, for licorice and for year round creeps who love a little subtle sparkle. I made extra and listed them in the shop if you love that sort of thing too.

it sometimes happens

The original.

It was back in January when I got the email, it was from Vickie Howell saying she had stumbled across one of my photos online and was wondering if I would mind if she used it in her upcoming book. I was shook, cripes I watched Vickie on PBS and Knitty Gritty when I was first learning to knit!

A few things ran through my head:

No.1 I still really love the Beekeepers Quilt and I still really love my Constellation Charts.

No.2 Holy Shit!

No.3 Why did I stitch a Taurus chart and photograph it? No one in my family is a Taurus, and my original picture was from 2011 and for the absolute life of me I can’t remember why Taurus.

No.4 Feeling pretty justified in watermarking my photos. I’ve always debated with myself if it was worth the extra effort to do so, or if it just came across as pretentious. I never did it thinking it was going to stop people from stealing them, I did it just to make sure no matter where they ended up that hopefully people could track it back to me. (Granted it only took 8ish years, but it worked ..haha!)

The publisher needed a hi resolution version of the image and I panicked, not knowing if my then early 2000s Nikon Coolpix point and shoot even took publisher quality hi-res images (back in the day image files were huge and my little 32mb SD card embarrassing by todays standards) ..did I even kept the original ..what if I didn’t keep the f’ing original!!!! Anyways, after sifting through old flash drives I finally found it, I sent off a few images not fully knowing what I was doing or what they were looking for, then a little while later Vickie asks me what are the odds I have something even higher resolution, I didn’t, but I still had the puffs, so we decided a reshoot would be the fix, it was, and now I have a picture in a book. 💕
